STANDARDS AND POLICIES FOR PSP COURSEWORK
Christian education must be both Christian and quality.
The school seeks to ensure the Christian perspective by requiring at least one parent to confess Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, to regularly attend a local Christian church, and to live a Christian lifestyle. The curriculum is to reflect a Christian worldview. The school desires parents to become familiar with the philosophy and goals of Ontario Christian School and appreciate the implications for curriculum and educational experiences. The Ontario Christian School PSP director is a committed Christian and familiar with the educational philosophy and curriculum of the school.
The school seeks to ensure quality by requiring the school to approve the family’s curriculum, goals for education, the plan for implementation, and by regular communication between the home and the school. The school requires the student participate in standardized testing and requires the family submit evidence of student work and progress. The Ontario Christian PSP director is a trained, experienced, professional teacher.
The high school courses are considered college preparatory. Graduation requirements are such that students are prepared for entry into most colleges and universities. It is important that PSP courses meet the same standards of academic rigor and are consistent in content quality as on-campus classes. This is important for the school to maintain its full accreditation with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and Christian Schools International (CSI). In addition, Ontario Christian submits course titles and descriptions to the University of California system which has approved most of the courses. There are also specific graduation requirements that all students must meet in order to graduate from Ontario Christian School. Therefore, the following standards have been established:
1    All courses that meet the specific graduation requirements must be taught using an approved curriculum. The PSP director will maintain the list of approved curricula. Curriculum not on the approved list will not be accepted for credit until approved for use by the academic counselor or the school principal. For some alternatives, Ontario Christian may require some additional work, especially to develop a Christian worldview.

2    Courses offered by other educational systems, community colleges, private teachers and other PSP courses shall not be used without special, prior approval of the PSP director and the Ontario Christian academic counselor.
3    If curricular materials have printed or electronic testing materials available, they shall be used for normal testing. Grades given for a course shall be supported by objective test results, and verified by the PSP director. When the PSP director deems it appropriate for the course, at least one written essay, test or other writing sample shall be submitted to the appropriate campus instructor for review and evaluation during the semester the course is being given. The grade given for that work shall be compared to the grades being given for the work done at home, and the final grade shall be adjusted accordingly, after the home teacher and PSP director confer about the campus instructor’s evaluation.
4    Standardized testing is required of all students. This is a valuable tool to assess the student’s academic progress and success. The testing results also provide a basis for curriculum modifications, and provide criteria to evaluate continued enrollment in Ontario Christian School PSP.
