Elementary Visual Art

Kindergarten art and two first grade art classes are taught by Mrs. Munive.
Two first grade classes and second through sixth grade art are taught by Miss Meendering.

At the beginning of the year, students in grades K through 6 worked on projects to be used as decorations at the annual Harvest Festival, which was held at the high school campus on Friday afternoon, November 6.
Students in grades 1, 3, 5, and 7 will worked on projects that were transferred to fabric and made into quilts that will be sold at the spring auction on March 12.

Students  work on holiday and seasonal projects throughout the year as well as projects that emphasize, develop, and practice various art skills and techniques.

Pictures will be posted as they become available! Keep checking back, please!

These are examples of the quilts auctioned off last March. The artwork was created by children in first, third, and fifth grade during the 2008-2009 school year.

First grade students considered harvest time and looked at the structure of a grape vine. With crayons, students created a grapevine, leaves, and tendrils. We added a shadow along the grape vine and highlights to the leaves. We discussed Jesus as the vine and ourselves as branches. We also talked about the tendrils lifting the vine up toward the light, just as we should lift up toward God. During the second art class of this project, students will print grape clusters with paint and their fingertips.

To celebrate 100's Day (the 100th day of  the school year) Students in first grade brainstormed how people might look and and change at age 100. Students created portraits complete with gray hair and wrinkles.

The third grade celebrated the colors of autumn with ceramic autumn leaves.

Fourth Grade students crafted colorful scarecrows as their Harvest Festival Project. We considered the pattern as an element of art to design their shirts.

The fourth grade crafted turkey "bowls" out of clay for their Thanksgiving project.

Fourth Grade students drew winter mice dressed for the cold weather.
