My educational background is the following: Graduate of Chaffey High School; Multnomah School of the Bible (Diploma & BSRE degree); Westminster Theological Seminary in California (MAR degree); Post Graduate studies in French, German and Music in preparation for a Ph.D. in Old Testament Semitics. My teaching experience includes: teaching Bible and related adult classes in a lay capacity in various churches since 1978; introduction to Biblical Hebrew at North County Theological Study Center; New Testament Introduction at an evening adult school. My teaching at OC began in 2006. Classes presently include Reformed Perspectives and English 9. I also began and sponsor the music ensemble club for string players. I hold a California State Teaching Credential in English.
I was born and raised in Ontario, California. My vocation was owning a fleet vinyl graphics installation business since 1983, but my ministry was teaching in various churches and church-related schools. My wife and I have two adult children. We recently celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. Our family played in an early music recorder ensemble for many years and continue to play at church. I enjoy both listening to classical music (baroque and Renaissance in particular) and playing recorder, cello, violin and guitar. Our family plays together for church and other functions. Historical military simulations are also a passion.
I was raised in a Christian home, but the discipleship of a youth minister during my high school years challenged me to actually live the Christian faith. Scripture and the Gospel are central to my life and thinking. I aim to stimulate others to clearly hear what the Bible says and to align their lives and worldview accordingly. The prayer of the psalmist would summarize the importance of scripture and my dependence on it: “Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law. I am a sojourner on the earth; hide not your commandments from me!”
